A 40-year-old man, a six-year-old child, and two cyclists in their late 50s and 60s have died in four separate road accidents reported across the country within 24 hours.

Four people have died in separate road accidents reported across Sri Lanka over the past day, according to police reports. The incidents highlight ongoing traffic safety concerns in various parts of the country.

In Kandakuliya, Kalpitiya, a motorcycle rider lost control and struck an electricity pole while traveling toward Kalpitiya. The 40-year-old rider and a six-year-old child who was traveling with him sustained critical injuries and were transported to Kalpitiya Hospital, where both subsequently died. Police identified both deceased as residents of the Kandakuliya area.

Two separate incidents involving cyclists also claimed lives. Near Lunuwila Junction on the Colombo-Puttalam Road, a cyclist aged between 55 and 60 was struck by a van while crossing the road. The cyclist died following admission to Marawila Hospital, and police arrested the van driver. In a second cycling incident in Madampe town, a 62-year-old cyclist from Madolkele was hit from behind by a van. The vehicle fled the scene, but authorities later apprehended the driver. The cyclist died at Madampe Hospital from injuries sustained in the collision.

Police have initiated investigations into all four accidents. Authorities have made arrests in at least two of the incidents involving vehicles.
