Shiran Basik, a prominent drug trafficker recently deported from Dubai, is being questioned by police who have uncovered evidence of helicopter pilot training and claims of ownership stakes in multiple Colombo hotels.
Shiran Basik, a 48-year-old resident of Dehiwala, remains in police custody as investigations into his criminal activities continue. According to NewsFirst, interrogations have revealed that Basik underwent helicopter flying training while in Dubai, where he had been hiding before his arrest and subsequent deportation to Sri Lanka.
During questioning by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau, Basik claimed to hold ownership stakes in five hotels situated along Marine Drive in Colombo's commercial district. The nature and extent of these claimed holdings remain under investigation. Basik was returned to the island on Friday night after being apprehended abroad.
Police are conducting their investigation under a 72-hour detention order, allowing them to question the suspect while verifying claims and gathering additional evidence. The discovery of helicopter training credentials adds a new dimension to the investigation into Basik's criminal network and financial operations. Authorities are likely examining potential connections between his claimed hotel ownership, the helicopter training, and his involvement in drug trafficking activities.
