India declared their first innings after accumulating 503 runs for the loss of nine wickets across 138 overs in the second Test between the two nations at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo. Captain Shubman Gill opted to close the batting after a substantial total was achieved on day two of the match.

The Indian batting lineup was anchored by wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who delivered a commanding performance with a century, scoring 115 runs. Contributions from the lower order batsmen proved instrumental in pushing India's total beyond the 500-run threshold, demonstrating effective batting depth despite losing nine wickets.

Sri Lanka's bowling attack showed resilience in containing the Indian batsmen. Pacer Asitha Fernando emerged as the standout bowler for the hosts, securing four wickets while conceding 106 runs. Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya added to Sri Lanka's tally by taking two wickets during the innings.
