The Society for Human Resource Management has strengthened its direct presence in Sri Lanka by appointing local HR leader Oshana Dias as Country Lead, marking an expansion of services for the nation's HR professionals and organisations.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a global HR professional association with approximately 340,000 members across more than 180 countries, has announced a significant expansion of its operations in Sri Lanka. The move includes the appointment of respected local HR leader and coach Oshana Dias as Country Lead for the country, supported by Dedeepya Ajith John from SHRM's India and Asia-Pacific division as Senior Director for Consulting and Business Development, alongside Senior Consultant Kaavya Sasidharan.

While SHRM has maintained a presence in Sri Lanka through its partnership with the Association of Human Resource Professionals (AHRP), this new structure represents a transition to direct market engagement. The expanded operations will provide greater access to SHRM's global expertise, professional development resources and organisational consulting services. The organisation will continue offering its internationally recognised certifications—SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP—while broadening its consulting portfolio to include organisational design, talent management, leadership development and HR transformation services.

To encourage participation, SHRM is offering a promotional membership rate of USD 49 to Sri Lankan HR professionals for a limited period. Members gain access to global research, toolkits, templates, an advisory service, and connections within SHRM's international professional network. The expanded presence also creates regional opportunities, including eligibility for the 15th SHRM HR Excellence Awards and preferential access to SHRM conferences in India, the Middle East and North Africa, and the United States, with a special delegate rate of USD 215 for the India conference scheduled for November 2026.

According to SHRM leadership, the strengthened local presence aims to combine global standards and regional expertise with market-specific insights. The organisation plans to introduce master classes tailored to Sri Lankan practitioners, covering topics such as talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, AI in HR, change management, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
