Sri Lanka's professional cricketers have launched the Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers' Association (SLPCA), a representative body to advocate for players' interests, with men's white-ball captain Kusal Mendis heading the organization.

Sri Lanka's cricket community has taken a significant step with the formal establishment of the Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers' Association (SLPCA), a new organization designed to represent and support the nation's professional players. Kusal Mendis, who captains the Sri Lankan men's white-ball team, has been named as the association's inaugural president.

Mendis expressed optimism about the organization's formation, stating that the SLPCA would work in partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket, the Transformation Committee, and other relevant bodies to advance the sport. Women's captain Chamari Athapaththu similarly endorsed the development, characterizing it as a meaningful progression for Sri Lankan cricket. According to reports, the newly formed association operates under the umbrella of the World Cricketers' Association (WCA), positioning Sri Lankan players alongside more than 750 international cricketers from 17 of the world's leading cricket nations.

Additional player representatives including Binura Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga have supported the initiative, emphasizing that the association would enable players to speak collectively on matters affecting their careers and wellbeing. Players' associations of this nature typically function independently while advocating for player protections, career development support, and meaningful participation in decisions impacting professional cricket. The SLPCA's establishment aligns Sri Lankan cricketers with counterparts in established cricket nations such as Australia, England, South Africa, and Bangladesh, as well as emerging cricket countries including Afghanistan, the West Indies, and several others.
