The airline's first service, flight VN-671 operated by an Airbus A320, touched down at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake late on the 16th and received a traditional water salute upon arrival. The inaugural flight carried 164 passengers from Ho Chi Minh City, while 172 travelers boarded the return service to Vietnam.
The new route will operate on a weekly schedule of three services, departing on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Each journey between the two cities is expected to take approximately four hours and 30 minutes. Officials marked the launch with a special ceremony held at the airport premises.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam attended the inauguration event as the chief guest, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the new air link. The direct service is expected to enhance connectivity between the two nations and facilitate increased travel and business opportunities.
