Sri Lankan authorities are set to bring back two wanted criminals arrested in Dubai following a court-ordered deportation, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle organized crime networks.

Two individuals identified as major organized crime suspects are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday night after being arrested in Dubai. The suspects, known as 'Bus Lalith' (alias Lalith Kannangara) and 'Wanathe Chathu,' will be transported back by a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, along with officers from the State Intelligence Service and the Criminal Investigation Department.

Bus Lalith was apprehended in Dubai in November 2025 following intelligence gathered during the arrest and interrogation of one of his associates in Sri Lanka. According to police statements, he faces multiple charges related to murders, extortion, and robbery incidents on the island. His legal challenge in Dubai courts against extradition was unsuccessful, with the court recently ordering his deportation to Sri Lanka.

Wanathe Chathu, the second suspect, is reportedly connected to organized criminal Kanjipani Imran. Police sources indicate that at least two other organized crime figures, 'Alto Dharme' and 'Konda Ranji,' are also currently detained in Dubai. The coordinated extradition effort reflects ongoing law enforcement operations targeting major criminal networks operating across international borders.

The deportations are taking place under the direction of Sri Lanka's Inspector General of Police, signaling a sustained focus on dismantling organized crime syndicates with transnational operations.
