President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Professor N.D. Fernando as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, effective August 24, 2026.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has named Professor N.D. Fernando to serve as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, marking a significant leadership change at the institution. The appointment was formally communicated through a letter presented by Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday morning, according to the President's Media Division.
Professor Fernando brings extensive experience in both academic and banking sectors to the role. He previously held the position of Chairman at the People's Bank and has maintained an academic career as a Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya itself, where the appointment now takes him to the top administrative position.
The new Vice-Chancellor will assume office on August 24, 2026, as the university embarks on this fresh leadership phase.
