Wills Realtors has officially begun construction of 96 Legends Square, a high-rise residential development designed as a tribute to Sri Lanka's historic 1996 Cricket World Cup triumph, with former captain Arjuna Ranatunga and other team members attending the ceremonial piling event.
Construction has commenced on a 46-storey residential tower in Battaramulla that draws inspiration from one of Sri Lanka's most significant sporting achievements. The project, named 96 Legends Square, was formally inaugurated through a piling ceremony held at Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, with the milestone marking the transition from the planning phase to active construction. Wills Realtors is overseeing the development in partnership with construction firm Adithya Lanka and piling contractor Nawaloka Piling.
The building's design incorporates symbolic references to the 1996 World Cup victory. The tower will be supported by 96 foundation piles, directly corresponding to the year of Sri Lanka's first ODI World Cup championship. Additionally, each residential floor will bear the name of a player from the winning squad, extending the cricketing theme throughout the structure. Former captain Arjuna Ranatunga and other members of the championship team attended the ceremony, lending their presence to the project's commemoration of their achievement.
The mixed-use development will offer residential units ranging from two to four bedrooms, alongside exclusive penthouses. Planned facilities include recreational amenities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, rooftop jogging track, and children's play area, as well as commercial spaces including a supermarket, coffee shop, and banquet hall. Project representatives emphasized that the development aims to merge luxury urban living with recognition of a pivotal moment in Sri Lankan sports history, positioning the tower as a distinctive landmark within the Battaramulla area.
