The Commissioner General of Examinations has confirmed that results for the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will be released before the end of the year, with over 372,000 candidates currently sitting the exam across the island.
The 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination commenced on schedule today with more than 372,000 candidates participating across 2,532 examination centres nationwide. According to Commissioner General Indika Kumari, the examination will run until September 5, with the candidate pool comprising 264,496 school applicants and 107,814 private applicants.
Kumari announced at a press conference that the evaluation of answer scripts is scheduled to begin on September 3, with a commitment to release all results before the calendar year concludes. She confirmed that examination activities began without incident at 8:30 a.m., with no disruptions reported from any centre island-wide.
Candidates have been reminded to adhere strictly to the revised examination timetable and appear at the correct locations on their designated dates. The Examinations Commissioner emphasised prohibitions on bringing mobile phones, smartwatches, electronic devices, and notes into examination halls. She warned that candidates engaging in malpractice—including talking during examinations, exchanging scripts, or disruptive behaviour—face severe consequences including suspension of their results.
Examination staff have been issued specific instructions regarding conduct, with only centre supervisors and additional assistant supervisors authorised to use mobile phones while on duty. Staff members found to be involved in malpractice will face disciplinary action under the Examinations Act. Kumari also reported that no disaster-related incidents have been recorded, with all relevant institutions maintained on standby to respond to any emergency situations that may arise during the examination period.
