The Consumer Affairs Authority has denied allegations circulating on social media that prices of milk powder, yoghurt, and cultured milk drinks have risen significantly.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has publicly rejected claims spreading across social media platforms alleging sharp price increases for several dairy products. According to the CAA, a post formatted as a breaking news alert alleged that milk powder prices had risen by Rs. 260 per kilogram, cultured milk drinks by Rs. 40 per bottle, and yoghurt by Rs. 20 per unit.
In a statement, the CAA characterized the information as entirely false and cautioned the public against sharing unverified claims online. The Authority emphasized that simply presenting information as breaking news does not establish its accuracy, and warned that such misinformation could unnecessarily alarm consumers and destabilize market confidence.
The CAA has encouraged members of the public to seek verification of any reported price changes through official sources and reliable channels before distributing such claims on social media platforms. The Authority also reminded consumers that they can report suspected price irregularities or other market concerns by contacting the CAA's dedicated hotline at 1977 during office hours.
