A group of naval personnel have successfully completed an eight-month Marine qualification course at SLNS Vidura in Trincomalee, receiving their Marine insignia at a ceremonial parade.

Thirty-six naval personnel, comprising three officers and thirty-three sailors, have completed the tenth intake of the Basic Marine Qualification Course at SLNS Vidura in Sampur, Trincomalee. The completion ceremony took place on August 29, 2026, and was attended by senior military officials including Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Eastern Naval Area.

The graduating cohort volunteered for the demanding eight-month training programme and received formal Marine insignia at the main parade ground. During the ceremony, several personnel were recognised for exceptional performance. Lieutenant VPA Sasanka received three trophies for Best Marine of the Course, Highest Aggregate in Overall Subjects, and Best Marksman. Physical Training Instructor WMGDP Bandara was awarded the trophy for Best Physical Fitness.

Addressing the newly qualified personnel, Rear Admiral Liyanagamage urged them to apply the skills acquired through training toward safeguarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasised the importance of maintaining current knowledge, staying vigilant in their duties, and applying the courage and determination developed during training to both professional and personal endeavours.

The event included a demonstration of Sri Lanka Navy Marine capabilities and skills. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Police, alongside families of the graduating marines. Rear Admiral Liyanagamage also commended the Commanding Officer of SLNS Vidura and the directing staff for their contributions to the successful completion of the course.
