Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has conveyed warm congratulations to India and Pakistan on their respective Independence Days, expressing hopes for strengthened bilateral ties with both nations.

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath marked the Independence Day celebrations of two neighbouring countries by extending formal greetings to their leadership and populations.

Through a post on social media platform X, Minister Herath congratulated India's Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar alongside the Indian Government and people on India's 80th Independence Day. The Foreign Minister used the occasion to express optimism about deepening the longstanding relationship between Sri Lanka and India, noting the importance of their multifaceted partnership.

In a parallel gesture, Minister Herath also conveyed congratulations to Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, as well as Pakistan's Government and people, marking Pakistan's Independence Day. He similarly stressed the value of strengthening cooperation and friendship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan through the diplomatic message.
