Authorities have arrested two suspects accused of operating a fraudulent employment scheme within the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, using forged Israeli job contracts to deceive prospective workers.
Police have apprehended two individuals suspected of running a fraudulent employment operation targeting job seekers at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). The arrests occurred on August 12 following an investigation into the scheme, which involved the preparation and distribution of counterfeit Israeli employment contracts.
According to the SLBFE, the suspects had brought multiple individuals to the Bureau premises with the intention of issuing them forged contracts promising work opportunities in Israel. Officers discovered the operation on the first floor of the SLBFE building and recovered seven foreign travel passports along with various documentation, including the fabricated job agreements.
The two arrested individuals were presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court on August 13 to face charges related to the scheme. The SLBFE has indicated that investigations into the matter remain ongoing, with authorities examining the extent of the operation and identifying any additional individuals who may have been affected by or involved in the fraudulent activities.
