The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested nine Indian fishermen caught operating illegally in Sri Lankan waters off Talaimannar, with authorities citing violations of maritime boundaries and use of environmentally harmful fishing methods.

The Sri Lanka Navy has detained nine Indian fishermen during an enforcement operation conducted off Urumalai Point in the Talaimannar area. According to NewsFirst, the individuals were apprehended while engaged in fishing activities that violated Sri Lanka's established maritime boundaries.

The operation revealed that the fishermen were operating a vessel in breach of international maritime demarcation lines. Authorities also noted that the fishing methods employed during the operation were considered harmful to the marine environment, adding environmental concerns to the charges against the detained individuals.

The arrested fishermen and their vessel have been transferred to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further legal proceedings. The incident represents one of the periodic enforcement actions undertaken by Sri Lankan maritime authorities to protect the nation's fishing waters and marine resources from unauthorized foreign activity.
