A 17-year-old Advanced Level student in Eheliyagoda died Sunday after being attacked with a sharp weapon, with police linking the incident to a dispute over unauthorized video recording that occurred the previous evening.

A teenager attending Eheliyagoda National School was fatally wounded in an attack early Sunday morning in the Arapola area of Eheliyagoda. The victim, an Advanced Level student, was struck with a sharp weapon at his residence before being rushed to Eheliyagoda Base Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to police investigations, the fatal attack appears connected to a confrontation that originated near Arapola School Junction on Saturday evening. The dispute began when a youth was conversing with two girls at the location, and another person allegedly used a mobile phone to record the interaction without consent. The unauthorized recording prompted a conflict between the involved parties.

Police stated that following the Saturday evening altercation, a suspect arrived at the victim's home in the early hours of Sunday and carried out the fatal attack before leaving the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and locate the suspect responsible for the assault.

The incident underscores tensions that can emerge from privacy violations and digital recording disputes among young people in the area. Police continue their efforts to apprehend the person involved in the fatal attack.
