The Sri Lankan government plans to send disaster relief teams composed of security personnel to Nepal within days, alongside US$1 million in financial assistance, to help communities affected by severe flooding.
Sri Lanka is preparing to dispatch disaster relief teams to Nepal in the coming days to support flood-affected areas, according to Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara. The relief contingents will include members of Sri Lanka's security forces, working alongside Nepal's own relief operations. However, the specific size and composition of the teams have not yet been finalised, as the Defence Ministry and National Disaster Management Relief Centre continue to assess Nepal's requirements.
Beyond personnel deployment, the Sri Lankan government is also arranging financial support for the affected nation. Deputy Minister Jayasekara announced that Sri Lanka plans to provide US$1 million in immediate financial assistance to Nepal following the disaster. He indicated that all necessary arrangements are expected to be completed within the next few days.
Jayasekara emphasised that Sri Lanka, as a neighbouring South Asian country, is committed to responding appropriately during this crisis. He noted that the country's President has already expressed condolences to Nepal regarding the flooding disaster. The Deputy Minister stated that the government intends to extend assistance to Nepal sensitively, recognising both the humanitarian urgency and the regional relationship between the two nations.
