A 51-year-old resident of Nainamadama was taken into custody following a police operation that uncovered over 67 liters of contraband alcohol in the Wennappuwa area.
Authorities arrested a 51-year-old woman during a raid in Wennappuwa on the basis of intelligence regarding illegal liquor distribution networks in the region. Officers from the Wennappuwa Police Station conducted the operation after receiving information about unlicensed alcohol production or trafficking activities.
During the search, police confiscated 90 bottles totaling 67.5 liters of illicit liquor from the suspect's residence in Nainamadama. The seizure represents a significant quantity of contraband alcohol, suggesting the operation may have disrupted a supply chain rather than a one-time violation.
The Wennappuwa Police have initiated further investigations into the matter, likely to determine whether the woman was operating independently or as part of a larger illicit liquor operation. The case follows ongoing enforcement efforts by local police to combat the illegal alcohol trade in the district.
