Police conducted coordinated raids in Monaragala's Mau Ara Reservoir area, arresting two suspects and seizing over 1,000 kilograms of processed cannabis along with tens of thousands of plants from an active cultivation site.

Authorities have dismantled a significant cannabis operation following enforcement actions in the Mau Ara Reservoir area of Monaragala district. During a special raid, police arrested one suspect found in possession of 1,044 kilograms and 180 grams of cannabis that had been prepared for distribution. According to the Police Narcotics Bureau, the seized drugs carry an estimated street value of approximately Rs. 73.78 million.

In a coordinated operation at the same location, officers discovered and shut down an active cultivation site spanning roughly 1.5 acres. A second suspect was arrested at the farming location, where authorities confiscated 54,096 cannabis plants at various stages of growth. The combined enforcement actions represent a substantial blow to drug trafficking infrastructure in the region.

The raids were carried out under the strategic direction of the Director of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit and supervised by the unit's Officer-in-Charge, indicating the operations were part of a broader organized effort to combat narcotics production and distribution networks.
