Police arrested two suspects and dismantled a significant drug operation in Hambegamuwa, Monaragala, seizing processed cannabis and a large-scale plantation.

Authorities have made a substantial drug seizure in the Hambegamuwa area of Monaragala district following an operation by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force. One suspect was apprehended near the Mau Ara canal with approximately 1,044 kilograms and 180 grams of cannabis that had been prepared for distribution. Police valued the confiscated stock at Rs. 73,780,000.

In a related operation in the same locality, officers arrested another individual operating an illegal cannabis cultivation site. The plantation, spanning one-and-a-half acres, contained over 54,000 cannabis plants, all of which were seized by police. The coordinated enforcement actions represent a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the region.

The seizures highlight ongoing efforts by Sri Lankan law enforcement to combat drug production and distribution networks. The substantial quantity of both processed cannabis and growing plants suggests an organized operation with capacity for large-scale supply. Authorities have placed both suspects in custody as investigations continue into the wider network involved in the operation.
