Two suspects have been detained for 24 hours following their arrest in connection with the abduction and murder of a Chinese national at Colombo Port City in late July. Police continue searching for a third suspect.
Two individuals arrested in relation to the killing of a Chinese national at Colombo Port City have been placed under 24-hour detention orders after appearing in court. The Hulftsdorp No. 8 Magistrate's Court approved the detention following their production on August 28, when they were apprehended during a police operation in Sigiriya by the Colombo Crimes Division.
According to police statements, the incident occurred on the night of July 22 when three Chinese nationals were fishing on a bridge at the Port City. The suspects allegedly arrived by van and assaulted the group, restraining and abducting one victim. The body of the deceased, identified as Hao Song, was subsequently recovered in Karadana, Eheliyagoda. A post-mortem examination determined that death resulted from internal injuries caused by stab wounds.
Police revealed that the two arrested suspects, both Chinese nationals, remained in Sri Lanka following the murder while changing their identities and physical appearances. The investigation that led to their arrest was described as lengthy. Authorities indicated that Hao Song had been involved in computer-related crimes. A third suspect in the case remains at large, and police operations continue to locate this individual.
Two additional Chinese nationals were previously arrested in connection with the incident, though specific details regarding their role were not disclosed.
