A fire at the Anawilundawa Ramsar Wetland has been brought under control following a coordinated emergency operation involving multiple government agencies and local communities.

A fire that erupted at the Anawilundawa Ramsar Wetland has been successfully contained, according to the Ministry of Environment. The incident prompted a collaborative response involving wildlife officials, military personnel, disaster management authorities, the local Divisional Secretariat, and residents from surrounding areas.

The scale of the emergency was reflected in the deployment of Air Force helicopters to support ground-based firefighting efforts. The wetland, which holds international significance as a Ramsar-designated site, required rapid intervention to minimize environmental damage.

The Ministry of Environment reported that approximately seven acres of the wetland were damaged in the incident. While the immediate threat has been contained, the full extent of the ecological impact on this protected wetland ecosystem remains to be assessed.
