Over 100 podcasters and digital content creators gathered in Colombo to discuss the future of Sri Lanka's digital media sector, with government officials pledging support for the emerging creator economy.

The Podcasters' Association of Sri Lanka hosted a forum on August 20 at the Granbell Hotel in Colombo, bringing together more than 100 podcasters, digital content creators and media professionals to examine the trajectory of the country's digital media industry. The event, titled "Exploring the New Media Landscape," focused on "Navigating Sri Lanka's Evolving Media Landscape: Challenges, Opportunities, and Sustainable Creator Growth."

During the forum, Deputy Minister of Mass Media Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne conveyed government commitment to supporting the expanding creator economy and establishing conditions that would enable sustainable career opportunities in digital media. Association President Namini Panditha emphasized digital media's importance for civic engagement and called for increased cooperation between independent creators and established media organizations.

Participants engaged in discussions spanning several key areas relevant to the sector's development, including digital entrepreneurship, strategies for generating revenue, growing and maintaining audiences, intellectual property rights, and safeguarding privacy and personal data. The gathering reflected broader efforts to establish a framework for sustainable growth within Sri Lanka's increasingly active digital content creation space.
