The Meteorology Department has issued warnings for significant rainfall and gusty winds affecting several provinces over the coming period, with some areas potentially experiencing falls exceeding 50 millimetres.

Residents across multiple regions of Sri Lanka should prepare for unsettled weather conditions in the coming days. According to forecasts, the Sabaragamuwa province along with the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts are expected to experience persistent showers, with fairly heavy precipitation anticipated at certain locations exceeding 50 millimetres.

The Western and North-western provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, are also in the forecast area for successive periods of rainfall. Additionally, scattered showers may develop in Matale, Anuradhapura, and Hambantota districts, while the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may see brief shower activity from mid-afternoon onwards. Most other areas of the island are expected to remain largely unaffected by rainfall.

Meteorological authorities have simultaneously issued a strong wind warning for multiple regions. Gusts reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are anticipated across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-central, and Central provinces, as well as in the Mannar, Trincomalee, and Monaragala districts. These conditions may persist at times throughout the forecast period.

The general public has been advised to exercise caution and implement necessary safety measures to mitigate potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershower activity.
