The Paddy Marketing Board has acquired approximately 19,592 metric tonnes of paddy since July as part of its Yala season purchasing initiative, with over 100 storage facilities operational across the country.

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 19,592 metric tonnes of paddy since July, according to PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda. The purchases form part of the board's regular acquisition programme during the Yala cultivation season, with the buying process continuing uninterrupted across the country.

To facilitate farmer access to the government purchasing scheme, the PMB has established over 100 storage and collection facilities nationwide. According to the chairman, additional warehouses will be opened in areas based on harvesting schedules and geographic requirements. However, not all planned facilities are yet operational, with the Polonnaruwa District seeing only a limited number of warehouses in use despite having further locations ready for operation.

The PMB has indicated that further storage facilities will be activated once harvesting activities commence in their respective regions, ensuring farmers throughout the country can participate in the purchasing programme without unnecessary delays.
