Sri Lanka's senior batter Dinesh Chandimal has been forced to miss the remainder of the first Test against India after sustaining a head and shoulder injury while fielding on the fourth day.
Sri Lanka's cricket team faced an unexpected blow during their ongoing first Test against India when veteran batter Dinesh Chandimal was sidelined following a fielding accident. The incident occurred during the first session of the fourth day when Chandimal fell heavily while attempting to field, striking both his head and shoulder against the ground.
Immediate medical attention was provided, with team officials subjecting Chandimal to precautionary scans to assess the severity of the injury. The scans ruled out any internal damage, but the player subsequently underwent a concussion evaluation conducted by the team's medical staff at the ground.
Following the assessment, Chandimal was ruled out for the remainder of the match in accordance with concussion protocols. Sri Lanka's team management responded by naming Pasindu Sooriyabandara as Chandimal's replacement under the ICC's concussion replacement regulations, a substitution that received approval from the match referee.
