Sri Lankan veteran Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the ongoing Test match against India after sustaining a concussion-related injury, with young batsman Pasindu Sooriyabandara replacing him.
Dinesh Chandimal has been withdrawn from the Galle Test against India following a concussion sustained during the fourth day of play. The 36-year-old experienced batsman was injured while attempting a diving save near the boundary at the end of the fourth over, landing awkwardly on his right shoulder and neck area.
Chandimal was immediately assessed by the team's medical staff and subsequently transported to hospital for precautionary imaging. According to Sri Lanka Cricket, scans revealed no signs of internal injury, though the concussion necessitated his removal from the match. The incident occurred at a challenging moment for the hosts, who were already facing significant pressure after conceding a 178-run lead to India in the first innings.
Parsindu Sooriyabandara, aged 26, has been named as the official concussion substitute and will make his Test debut in this match. The right-handed batsman has built an impressive first-class record across 68 matches, averaging 54.36 with 14 centuries to his name. His promotion comes as Sri Lanka seeks to mount a recovery in the fourth innings, with Chandimal having contributed only 4 runs in the first innings before his injury.
