Sri Lanka's Public Health Inspectors' Union has initiated a nationwide work action, halting administrative data submissions in protest against the transfer of a senior inspector from the airport health office.
The Public Health Inspectors' Union commenced coordinated industrial action at 8:00 am, directing all inspectors and administrative staff across the country to cease submitting reports and system updates. The measure was announced in opposition to the reassignment of PHI B.H. Migasdeniya from the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport Health Office.
Union representatives attributed the action to concerns about irregular activities occurring at the airport facility. According to the union, the Ministry of Health had previously been notified of these issues but failed to implement remedial measures. The organization emphasized that any data withheld during the period of industrial action would not be retroactively entered into systems once normal operations resume.
The union has called for an immediate reversal of Migasdeniya's transfer and has requested a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the decision. Additionally, union officials have raised objections to proposed reductions in the authorized staffing levels at both the Colombo Port Health Office and Katunayake Airport Health Office.
Despite the confrontational nature of the action, union leadership indicated openness to dialogue with government authorities. Representatives stated their willingness to support a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter and expressed readiness to engage in negotiations at any time to resolve the dispute.
