Sri Lanka's Public Health Inspectors' Association has announced a withdrawal from airport quarantine and dengue control activities, citing unresolved complaints about irregularities at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport's health office.

The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors' Association has initiated industrial action over what it describes as serious administrative and financial irregularities at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport Health Office. According to the association, previous complaints regarding suspected corruption, misuse of public funds, and administrative misconduct have not been adequately investigated by relevant authorities.

The dispute centers on the handling of these allegations and the circumstances surrounding a senior officer's transfer. The association claims that Public Health Inspector B.H. Weerasekera was transferred arbitrarily after raising concerns about the alleged irregularities. The organization has called for his reinstatement pending a proper investigation into the matter.

Beginning August 20, all public health inspectors nationwide have been instructed to withdraw from airport-related quarantine duties and dengue patient investigations. This action is followed by a planned nationwide strike on August 21. The association has indicated that further trade union action will depend on responses from Health Ministry officials regarding their concerns.

In a communication to the Health Ministry Secretary, the association warned that it will submit evidence relating to the alleged irregularities to relevant authorities for potential legal proceedings. The organization has urged officials to address these issues and resolve the employment matter before escalating the dispute further.
