Police in Colombo discharged firearms at a vehicle on Saturday after its driver failed to comply with orders to halt at a roadblock established in the Narahenpita area. The incident unfolded following a tip-off to the police emergency hotline regarding an alleged abduction, according to police statements. Officers had positioned themselves on Nawala Road and instructed the approaching car to stop, but the driver continued past the checkpoint, prompting the shooting.

Following the gunfire, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Officers discovered a 26-year-old woman inside the car who was allegedly the victim of an abduction that occurred near the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). Police confirmed that no injuries were sustained during the shooting incident.

Investigations are ongoing, with Cinnamon Gardens Police taking the lead in examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction. Authorities have initiated a search for the suspect who escaped from the scene.
