Police officers opened fire at a vehicle on Nawala Road in Narahenpita after receiving an emergency report of an abduction, successfully rescuing a 26-year-old woman and causing the suspects to flee.
Law enforcement personnel stationed at a checkpoint on Nawala Road in Narahenpita responded to an emergency call on the afternoon of the 29th regarding an alleged abduction. Upon receiving information through the police hotline, officers at Narahenpita Police Station instructed the suspect vehicle to halt at the roadblock.
When the driver refused to stop and continued driving through the checkpoint, police officers opened fire on the van to bring it to a halt. The occupants immediately abandoned the vehicle and the victim at the scene and fled the area, leaving behind the van and its evidence.
The rescued woman, identified as being 26 years old, had reportedly been abducted near the BMICH earlier that day. Following the rescue, police began immediate investigations into the incident. While the Narahenpita Police Station responded to the initial emergency, the Cinnamon Gardens Police have since taken over further investigative work into the case. Authorities continue searching for the suspects who fled the scene.
