Authorities have implemented traffic restrictions on a section of the main road between Hatton and Colombo following heavy rainfall that has created subsidence risks.

A stretch of the Hatton–Colombo main road at Rozella in Watawala has been placed under close monitoring after recent heavy rains raised concerns about potential road subsidence, according to officials overseeing the route. The Norwood Road Office has responded to the situation by restricting the affected area to a single lane of traffic to protect motorist safety.

The Executive Engineer of the Norwood Road Office, A.M. Sadhik, confirmed that the lane restrictions remain in effect while authorities assess conditions along the vulnerable section. The measure is intended as a precautionary step to manage traffic flow while minimizing accident risks in the area.

Travellers using the road between Hatton and Kitulgala have been advised to proceed with heightened caution given the ongoing severe weather affecting the region. Authorities have requested that drivers pay close attention to traffic instructions and remain alert while traversing the restricted zone. The limitations are expected to remain in place until further assessment determines the road is safe for normal traffic patterns.
