Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Lebanon met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji to reaffirm diplomatic relations and discuss expanded cooperation across multiple sectors including trade, tourism, and labour affairs.
Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the Lebanese Republic, Anura Withanage, held discussions with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji and senior ministry officials at the Foreign Affairs headquarters in Beirut. The meeting, conducted in a cordial atmosphere, focused on reinforcing the established friendship between the two nations and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation.
Both delegations identified several areas for potential collaboration, notably diplomacy, trade, tourism, labour relations, and cultural exchanges. Ambassador Withanage conveyed greetings from Sri Lanka's Government and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, while Minister Rajji expressed his admiration for Sri Lanka and indicated his desire to undertake an official visit to the island nation in the future. The Ambassador extended a formal invitation for the Lebanese Foreign Minister to experience Sri Lanka's cultural heritage and natural attractions.
A significant focus of the meeting was the recognition of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Lebanon. Minister Rajji paid tribute to the Sri Lankan community, acknowledging their substantial contributions to Lebanese society through their professionalism and work ethic. He noted that Sri Lankan workers have developed a reputation for being law-abiding and well-integrated members of the community. Ambassador Withanage reciprocated by expressing gratitude for Lebanon's recognition of Sri Lankan nationals and reaffirmed his country's commitment to strengthening cooperation in labour, economic, and cultural domains.
Both parties concluded the meeting by committing to deepen their bilateral relationship and expand mutual cooperation for the benefit of their respective populations.
