The mother of retired Major General Suresh Sallay, former head of Sri Lanka's State Intelligence Service, has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake requesting that her son's detention not be prolonged while investigations continue.
The mother of Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who previously headed the State Intelligence Service, submitted a letter to the Presidential Secretariat on the 24th appealing against further detention of her son. In her correspondence to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, she highlighted her son's 37 years of service in the Sri Lankan military, during which he sacrificed personal and family time in service to the nation.
While making her appeal, Sallay's mother clarified that she was not seeking to obstruct any investigation into allegations against her son. Instead, she called for authorities to thoroughly examine available evidence and establish facts through proper investigative procedures. She emphasized that detention should not serve as a substitute for evidence-based proceedings.
The mother requested an audience with the President to discuss the matter, stressing that she sought no special privileges but only justice and fair treatment under the law. She appealed to allow her son to face legal proceedings freely rather than remain in custody during the investigative phase. Her petition underscores concerns about detention duration in cases under active investigation.
