The Sri Lanka Air Force deployed its firefighting team to contain a rapidly spreading wildfire in Vavuniya's Purasamkulam area, preventing damage to a nearby forest reserve and university premises.

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) successfully controlled a wildfire that threatened the Purasamkulam area of Vavuniya district on Wednesday. The fire had begun spreading rapidly across the region before intervention efforts brought it under control.

According to the SLAF, its firefighting and rescue team mobilized following a report from Purasamkulam Police Station alerting authorities to the escalating fire. Upon reaching the affected area, the team implemented containment measures to halt the fire's progression.

The swift action by the Air Force prevented the wildfire from advancing toward a nearby forest reserve and the premises of the University of Vavuniya, according to the SLAF statement. Officials credited the immediate response with minimizing potential environmental and infrastructural damage to these sensitive areas.
