Sri Lanka's National Building Research Institute has extended Level 2 amber alerts for multiple areas in central and southwestern districts as hazardous weather conditions persist.
The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has prolonged Level 2 (Amber) landslide warnings across selected regions in Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts. The alerts remain active for a 24-hour period beginning at 9:00 a.m. on June 6 through 9:00 a.m. on June 7, with authorities citing ongoing unfavorable weather as the primary concern.
Eight Divisional Secretariat areas in Kandy district fall under the elevated warning level, including Udadumbara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Deltota and Pasbage Korale. In Kegalle district, five divisions have been designated as high-risk zones: Yatiyanthota, Bulathkohupitiya, Dehiowita, Aranayaka and Deraniyagala. The Nuwara Eliya district includes six affected divisions—Talawakelle, Ambagamuwa, Norwood and both Kotmale East and West—while Ratnapura district has three areas of concern: Openayake, Imbulpe and Ratnapura divisions.
In addition to the Level 2 warnings, the NBRI has issued lower-level Level 1 (Yellow) alerts for select areas across Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts. These include the Kegalle Divisional Secretariat Division and the Nivithigala and Kuruwita divisions in Ratnapura district.
Authorities have urged residents in landslide-prone regions to remain vigilant and implement necessary safety precautions as the adverse weather conditions continue throughout the affected areas.
