The Lanka India Business Association (LIBA) has announced its inaugural "India Calling!" summit, scheduled for August 6, 2026, at the Taj Samudra in Colombo. The full-day event aims to transform high-level policy discussions into concrete commercial opportunities, with participation from international diplomats, business executives, and policy experts from both nations.
According to LIBA President Santosh Menon, the forum addresses a strategic moment for Sri Lanka's economic development. With India's economy expanding rapidly and home to over 300 million middle-class consumers, the proximity of Sri Lanka—located approximately 30 kilometers from India's southern coast—presents significant commercial opportunities. The summit will examine operational challenges, regulatory frameworks, and potential collaboration in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, tourism, and manufacturing sectors.
The event features prominent speakers including Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Deputy Chairman of India's Planning Commission, and Professor C. Raja Mohan, a leading South Asian foreign policy strategist. H.E. Santosh Jha, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, will also address attendees alongside Western Province Governor Hanif Yousuf. Additional diplomatic representation will come from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
Four specialized panel discussions will focus on practical business applications, including how Sri Lankan companies can access India's consumer market, cross-border media distribution, free trade agreement implementation, and youth-led innovation initiatives. Key discussion themes will encompass renewable energy collaboration, digital public infrastructure adaptation, and the potential of Sri Lankan ports as manufacturing and transshipment hubs for South Indian commercial centers.
