Police have arrested a 42-year-old man from the Veyangoda area following an operation targeting illegal excavation activities in the Damana Police Division.

A 42-year-old resident of Veyangoda has been arrested by Damana Police on suspicion of conducting unauthorized excavations in search of archaeological artifacts. Officers from the Damana Police Station carried out a raid in the Bakmitiyawa area of the Damana Police Division based on information received, apprehending the suspect during the operation.

The raid was conducted on the night of the 9th and led to the discovery of illegal excavation activities at the location. Police have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the artifacts sought or the extent of excavation work undertaken.
