Two motorcyclists died in a collision with a container truck on the Negombo–Minuwangoda Road on July 29, leading to the arrest of three individuals accused of setting the vehicle on fire at the scene.

A fatal traffic accident on the Negombo–Minuwangoda Road claimed the lives of two young motorcyclists on the evening of July 29. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:10 pm in the Bolawalana area when the motorcycle, travelling at considerable speed towards Negombo, collided with a container truck that was turning across the roadway. The two victims, aged 18 and 20, were identified as residents of Dagonna in Negombo.

Following the collision, authorities apprehended the container truck driver. However, the situation escalated when bystanders gathered at the accident scene became disruptive and deliberately ignited the truck, resulting in substantial fire damage to the vehicle.

Police investigations into the arson incident led to the arrest of three suspects on the evening of July 30. The three individuals, aged 20, 25, and 26, are from Dagonna and Kimbulapitiya in the Negombo area. Officers additionally located an abandoned motorcycle near the scene during their investigation.

Authorities indicated that ongoing investigations aim to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in destroying the container truck. Police are utilizing CCTV footage and other available evidence in their inquiry.
