The Consumer Affairs Authority has initiated lawsuits against 84 retail outlets nationwide for selling illegally imported cosmetics and footwear without proper documentation.

The Consumer Affairs Authority has filed legal proceedings against 84 retail stores across Sri Lanka following a series of island-wide enforcement operations targeting the unauthorized sale of imported cosmetics and footwear products.

During the raids, authorities discovered footwear with an estimated value of approximately Rs. 1.5 million. According to the Consumer Affairs Authority, the shop owners were unable to produce legitimate bills or invoices to verify the legal importation of these goods, suggesting the items entered the country through unofficial channels.

The Consumer Affairs Authority indicated that enforcement activities related to illegally imported cosmetics and footwear will continue in the coming period. The agency's initiative represents an effort to combat what appears to be a wider issue of contraband merchandise entering the retail market without proper regulatory oversight.
