A new large-scale logistics facility operated by Dart Global Logistics Group has officially opened in Sri Lanka, offering warehousing, consolidation and value-addition services designed to strengthen the country's role in regional supply chains.
DGL Free Zone (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Dart Global Logistics Group, officially inaugurated its facility on August 19, marking a significant addition to Sri Lanka's logistics infrastructure. The operation spans 135,000 square feet and provides approximately 30,000 cubic metres of storage capacity, including a 10-level racking system capable of holding the equivalent of around 450 forty-foot containers. The facility features more than 25 cargo docks to expedite loading and unloading procedures.
The free-zone has been designed to support international businesses undertaking multi-country consolidation, regional distribution and value-added logistics services. These services include labelling, pick-and-pack operations, country-specific customisation and other supply-chain activities conducted within Sri Lankan territory. The facility comprises three main chambers accommodating multiple commodity types, with three additional mezzanine floors reserved for value-addition activities and temperature-controlled storage for sensitive cargo such as pharmaceuticals and fast-moving consumer goods.
Technology integration represents a central component of the operation, with the facility employing an international Tier-1 warehouse management system and RFID scanning capabilities to enhance inventory tracking and cargo visibility. The opening reflects broader shifts in regional supply-chain dynamics, with businesses increasingly seeking flexible consolidation solutions positioned closer to key markets. DGL cited developments in the Middle East and growing regional demand as drivers for Sri Lanka's potential expansion within international supply networks.
The company anticipates the facility will generate employment in warehouse and value-addition roles while creating secondary opportunities across transport, cargo clearance and related logistics services. Senior government officials from the Board of Investment, Export Development Board and Sri Lanka Customs attended the opening alongside Dart Global Logistics Group leadership.
