An armed attack on a bakery owner in Dehiwala failed after the gunman's firearm malfunctioned, allowing the owner to disarm the attacker who subsequently fled the scene.

An attempt to shoot a bakery owner on Kadawatha Road in Dehiwala was thwarted when the assailant's weapon malfired during the attack, according to police reports.

According to NewsWire, a gunman arrived on a motorcycle to carry out the shooting, but after the firearm misfired, the bakery owner managed to wrestle the weapon away during a physical struggle. The suspect then fled the location, abandoning the gun. However, Ada Derana reports that two individuals arrived on the motorcycle, though the exact roles of both attackers remain unclear from available information.

The weapon used in the attempted attack was identified as a 9mm firearm. Police have deployed investigative teams to the scene and are working to identify the suspects involved in the incident.
