Adverse weather conditions affecting multiple regions of Sri Lanka have claimed eight lives and impacted thousands of residents, according to the Disaster Management Centre.
Severe weather has resulted in eight fatalities across parts of the country over recent days, with the Disaster Management Centre providing an updated assessment of the situation on Tuesday evening. The DMC's latest report indicates that the adverse conditions have extended across nine districts, affecting a total of 56 Divisional Secretariat divisions.
The scale of the impact has been substantial, with approximately 11,832 individuals from 3,014 families experiencing disruptions due to the weather. Three additional people have been treated for injuries sustained during the period. The DMC did not provide further details regarding the nature of these injuries or the specific districts most severely affected.
Property damage has also been documented in the affected areas. One residential structure has been completely destroyed, while 290 houses have incurred varying degrees of partial damage. The DMC continues to monitor the situation as weather conditions persist across the affected regions.
